Debbie Park, President
Hello! My name is Debbie Park. I was elected to the board in the fall, 2015 after being asked to run as a write in candidate. I previously served on this board as treasurer for five years (1985-1989). Our daughter attended school here during those years. I currently am employed by Auto-Owners Insurance Company in Lansing. I have worked for them a total of twenty-five years, most of which was spent as an accountant in their accounting department. I felt serving on the school board would be a good way to get back in touch with the community and learn how I could best support it and Strange School.
I have lived in the Grand Ledge area the majority of my life. I attended Centennial School, a one room school located on the corner of St. Joseph Highway and Hartel Road (M100) before it was annexed to Grand Ledge. The building has since been torn down.
My family moved to a home on Strange Highway during my senior year at Grand Ledge high school. This farm was owned by my cousin at that time and has now been in our family approximately seventy-five years. My father, Stan Evert, also served on the Strange school board for a time. My husband Ron and I acquired the adjoining farm when we were married and settled down in this school district as well. One of the reasons we located here was the one room school. We wanted our children to have the quality education they could receive here. We were not disappointed! We have one daughter, Anna, and she attended Strange School kindergarten through third grade. The individual attention and feeling of community and family make for a wonderful learning environment. We transferred her into Grand Ledge at that time, but her years here laid a great foundation for her future education and life goals.
Thank you all for giving me this opportunity!
